October 26/2009 - BYD Car Factory Introductions and Tour |
BYD is an acronym for Build Your Dreams" and is a leading automobile manufacturer located in Shenzhen, China.
We were honored with the opportunity to tour their museum and to have a lengthy meeting with their representatives. Trent was even invited to test drive their latest pure electric vehicle.
BYD was a key contact for us because they are absolutely a world leader in both electric vehicle manufacturing and in batteries. In fact, it surprised us t learn that BYD currently manufacturers about 40% of the entire world supply of batteries.
Another interesting point of note was that 98% of their auto manufacturing process is done manually without automation, a feat that is virtually impossible in North America. As well, they manufacture nearly 100% of the parts used in their vehicles and have doubled in production scope each year for the past 4 years.
It was quite a visit.

Oct. 26/2009 - Zhongshan, China - Clothing and Promotional Items |
Unlike the North American model of offering a select number of promotional t-shirts and golf shirts, China offers limitless possibilities in style, color and price. It was important to us that we get the best quality promotional items based on our very specific corporate vision and we went directly to the factories to achieve this goal. |
Oct. 25/2009 - Zhongshan, China - Printing and Signage |
Printing and signage items are easily attainable and quite affordable in China. The pricing model is based on quantity and quality and it is very important to directly communicate with your suppliers as to exactly what your needs are because they can and will build anything you can dream of.

Oct. 22/2009 - Shenzhen, China - Factories and Manufacturing |
We chose to center our trip around the city of Shenzhen for a number of reasons; First that it is centrally located in Southern China, second that it is close enough to Hong Kong to provide convenient access to where our conferences and government meetings are, and finally because it is home to a number of essential high technology factories that we wish to visit and research. China features manufacturing processes that include excellence in engineering, resources, manpower and ingenuity. |

Oct. 21/2009 - Shenzhen, China - LED Factory Tours |
Unlike much of North America where similar factories are decentralized, in China you can visit a number of factories in relatively close proximity. These factories share similar goals and processes in their manufacturing and are able to remain lean and agile.
In this photo, Trent Mullen speaks to Genius Award Winner Lam Shun Yee about building our LED solutions. His factory and processes were both outstanding and innovative. Without knowing each other, we quickly learned that like us, they shared our altruistic goal of being eco-friendly, of conserving energy, ad of building outstanding best of class products. |
